Legal Update: Guidance for Employer Associations in a Post COVID-19 Landscape

Paula Goedert Bio
Paula Cozzi Goedert is a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP where she chairs the Associations and Foundations Practice Group. She concentrates her practice on the representation of non-profit organizations, including professional societies, trade associations, public charities and private foundations. She is listed in the 2011 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® in the Non-Profit/Charities area.

Ms. Goedert serves as general or lead counsel for many national associations including the American Architectural Manufacturers Association, the American College of Surgeons, the Bank Administration Institute, the National PTA and the American Library Association. She is a frequent lecturer and has authored many articles on non-profit and association topics including governance, antitrust, copyright issues, lobbying by exempt organizations, human resource issues, legal status of chapters and the unrelated business income tax.

Karen Sprenger Bio 
Karen Sprenger is the COO and chief ransomware negotiator at LMG Security. She is a notedd cybersecurity industry expert, speaker, trainer and course developer, in addition to managing LMG Security's operations. Karen has more than 25 years of experience in cybersecurity and information technology. She is a GIAC Certified Forensics Examiner (CGFE) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Karen is a hands-on executive; she built a Fiber optic network to 34 schools, supported 18,000 users, 50 miles of network, and one very temperamental vending machine, led many of LMG Security's large incident response cases, and negotiated and paid ransoms. She is a long-standing teacher of a technical leadership advancement course for a large state agency, and speaks at many events.

Economic and financial signals point to continued economic recovery. However, this is no V-shaped recovery---rather a typical long road to recovery as is typical of prior economic recoveries. Moreover, there are winners and losers and long-term structural change for many sectors/industries.

John E Silvia Bio 
Founder of the John E. Silvia, Dynamic Economic Strategy and recently retired as Managing Director and Chief Economist for Wells Fargo. Prior to Wells Fargo, John worked on Capitol Hill as a senior economist for the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee and as Chief Economist of Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Before that, he was chief economist of Kemper Funds and managing director of Scudder Kemper Investments, Inc. John was awarded a National Association of Business Economics (NABE) Fellow Certificate of Recognition in 2011 for outstanding contributions to the business economics profession and leadership among business economists of the Nation. In 2010, he was recognized for the Best Inflation Forecast, the Best Overall Forecast and the Best Personal Consumption Expenditures Forecast by The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. John was named one of the Top 10 forecasters for the last four years by Bloomberg News in 2009 and the No. 2 forecaster by USA Today for 2008.
